Green Mark Platinum SLE
Singapore’s first Green Mark Platinum
(Zero Energy) commercial building
Recognising its exceptionally low energy consumption and use of renewable energy generated both on-site and off-site. The building achieved an energy use index (EUI) below 115 kWh/m² per year, meeting the criteria for the certification.
The 18-storey commercial building, together with its six-storey podium, became the first commercial building in Singapore to receive this accolade. In 2018, Keppel Land secured a grant of up to $1.28 million through BCA’s Green Buildings Innovation Cluster (GBIC) programme to introduce advanced energy-efficiency technologies at the property.
The initiatives included a high-efficiency air distribution system, an innovative cooling-tower water management solution, and smart LED lighting. By February, these measures had delivered a 22.3% reduction in annualised energy consumption, surpassing the original 20% reduction target**.
To further reduce its reliance on conventional energy sources, photovoltaic (PV) panels were installed on the rooftops of both the tower and podium. The solar installation is expected to produce approximately 100,000 kWh of renewable energy annually, supporting the building’s achievement of Zero Energy status.
Following the implementation of these energy-efficiency measures, Keppel Bay Tower is expected to achieve an annual energy use intensity (EUI) of below 115 kWh/m² per year**, representing a*more than 30% improvement compared with its 2017 Green Mark Platinum performance. The enhanced efficiency is projected to deliver annual energy savings exceeding 2.2 million kWh, equivalent to approximately S$400,000 in yearly cost savings. Overall, the building’s energy consumption is expected to be nearly 50% lower than that of typical office buildings in Singapore.
Any remaining energy requirements will be addressed through the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) via Keppel Land’s electricity retailer, Keppel Electric. The RECs are backed by renewable electricity generated from photovoltaic (PV) installations at Keppel Offshore & Marine’s Singapore yards, further supporting the building’s transition towards net-zero energy consumption.
